Tomorrow's technology... here today in high definition! Mid America Productions now offers you the option of shooting, editing, and archiving your project in 720P High Definition.
The Format
This format produces nearly 3x the resolution of conventional formats, yielding an image with detail you never imagined! In addition, each frame of video is progressive (thus the "P" in 720P) instead of interlaced which means every frame of video is a complete frame, not a "field". Progressive scanning eliminates flickering and results in an extremely smooth and crystal clear image.
The Equipment & Software
Our new array of HD recording and authoring equipment includes JVC's GY-HD100 camera, which shoots 720P video in 30 or true 24 frames per second. True 24 FPS gives a very accurate film appearance to recorded video and blends seamlessly with 16mm or 35mm footage. This camera also sports a full-size, mechanically-focused Fujinon 16x lens for optimal control and quality while shooting.
Also in the arsenal is the JVC BR-HD50. This unit will playback and record SD or HD (either 720p or 1080i) signals, offering great versatility between different digital video formats.
To edit and author the High Definition video, we are equipped with the industry-standard Final Cut Pro & DVD Studio Pro from Apple, in addition to other supplemental software programs.
What it means for you
Not sure if you're ready to shoot your project in High Definition? There are a few factors you will probably want to consider.
It's true that right now consumers don't have access to HD players to view this new media, however the players will be hitting the market soon. As that happens we will experience a shift in standards much the same as we have witnessed in the transition from VHS to DVD. In the meantime, you can choose to shoot, edit and archive in HD while mastering to standard definition. This way, the video you shoot now will be ready for the transition when it occurs.
Network and local television have been switching to HD for several years now. If you are shooting footage that will be broadcasted, you may want to go the high definition route.
Because of the true 24P capabilites of our equipment, shooting in High Definition is perfect when your footage will be combined with film footage.
